Bad for football fans; Maybe good for soap fans?
Didn't work for me. The hero is a QB for the Alabama Crimson Tide. His parents despise this (and even if they did hate him for various reasons that he was the starting QB for the Tide would be a source of tremendous cachet in Alabama and elsewhere). There is a lot of football in this book and none of it is quite right.
The author is apparently British and she tried to get it right but clearly doesn't know football. She refers to a Notre Dame player as a "Dame linebacker". She refers to the hero as "first draft" and not "first draft pick" or "number one in the draft." First draft? I kept thinking he was up for the first beer off the keg or something.
The hero's name is Romeo Prince and the heroine's name is Molly Juliet Shakespeare. Cue eyeroll.
Beyond the bad football, the conflicts are super overwrought and lack believability. I.e., Romeo's dad hitting him in the face on campus or his mother getting into a physical altercation with Molly.
Four stars for effort but two stars for execution.
